Meet our new Treasurer! Doug Bauman
SAMPS has a new Treasurer, and we wanted to introduce him to you. We are so grateful for our long-standing Treasurer, Paul Brick who happily retired this year, but we are eager to get to know Doug and welcome him into his new role.
Doug Bauman was born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, he took two years of Engineering at University of Saskatchewan and then completed a Business Degree specializing in Accounting. Doug moved to Medicine Hat after graduation and married his Wife Brenda in 1980. Brenda and Doug had two children, a son and a daughter. The Bauman’s Daughter is a practicing Clinical Psychologist, and their son is a Chartered Accountant. Doug owned and operated several businesses and retired in 2020. His volunteer work has included coaching sports teams, working on various minor sports boards, the Community Festival Board, the Chamber of Commerce, etc. Doug also loves golf, waterskiing and wilderness canoeing in the far north.
Brenda fell ill with Multiple Myeloma and kidney failure in 2017 and was not expected to survive. Doug became her full-time caregiver. She fooled us all though and recovered enough to have a stem cell transplant in October 2018 at which time they moved to Calgary. Doug and Brenda connected with SAMPS shortly thereafter and quickly recognized the important role the Society plays in supporting patients, caregivers, and Myeloma research efforts. They are very thankful to the amazing medical teams and researchers for Brenda’s recovery and ongoing care. Doug is happy to be able to support SAMPS by accepting the role as Treasurer and working with the dedicated members of the board.
Let’s all give Doug a big WELCOME! We know he is going to excel in his role and we look forward to getting to know him better.
