Myeloma Challenge 2022

SAMPS Myeloma Challenge 2022

SAMPS is hard at work behind the scenes organizing our main fundraiser, the SAMPS 2022 Virtual Challenge, which is scheduled for the week of July 18 – 23, 2022.  This year, the event will conclude with an in-person BBQ at Canyon Meadows Community Centre on the afternoon of July 23, 2022 at a cost of $15.00/adult and $10.00/under 12 years which promises to include some great fun activities!

The SAMPS 2022 Virtual Myeloma Challenge hasn't officially started yet but we have already raised $14,080! This includes two “kick off” donations of $4,000 from Norma Gilbert, and $5,000 from Brenda and Doug Bauman. We are extremely grateful to Norma, Brenda, and Doug for the most generous gifts! Our sincere thanks to all of you.

You can make a difference by signing up as an individual, joining an existing team or getting a group of good friends together and creating your own team! Direct your family and friends to your page so that they can donate to support your personal Myeloma Challenge!

For the challenge, you choose a challenge activity that is meaningful to you – something unique that you can do at your own pace, whatever the stage of your personal Myeloma journey. Whether you walk, run or cycle a certain distance, walk a target number of steps each day, sew a number of masks, shave your head, create artwork for donation, or help a person in need - the list is endless – we can all make a difference in our own unique way.

If you cannot physically participate in the challenge, then please help us by making a donation. Reach out to family and friends who would like to support both you and the cause and help bring us closer to a cure for myeloma.

Are you up for the challenge?

You can sign up as an individual, join an existing team or get a group of good friends together and create your own team!  This year we’ve changed things up a little – instead of charging a registration fee (which is not tax deductible), we are asking everyone who registers to please make a donation to the Challenge.  Donations over $25 will receive a tax receipt.

The money raised in the SAMPS Myeloma Challenge stays in Calgary, facilitates the awareness of Multiple Myeloma in Alberta, helps with advocacy to ensure that our voices are heard in important decisions which impact our lives, and supports the lab at the University of Calgary Division of Hematology Research and Education Fund run by Dr. N. Bahlis and Dr. P. Neri, who specialize in Multiple Myeloma research. That research allows for the development of treatments and the organization of clinical trials which many of us at SAMPS and all Multiple Myeloma patients rely on.

Wrap-up BBQ

This year, the Challenge week will conclude with an in-person BBQ at Canyon Meadows Community Centre - 848 Cantabrian Drive S.W. on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.  The cost to attend will be $15.00/adult and $10.00/under 12 years.  Please note that there is no advance fee for the BBQ, but we do need people to register using the link below.  We will be accepting cash or cheques only upon entry at the Community Association.  This promises to be a fun event for the entire family with a caricature artist, face painting and a dunk tank (so you can dunk some Board members).

Please register in advance for the Virtual Challenge WRAP-UP BBQ to help us determine food/drink requirements: BBQ Registration. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION AND/OR SUPPORT!
